Chapter 203
Julian Sterling Was in a Car Accident
In the hospital.
After being examined, no one in the Sterling family was seriously hurt. It was just that Mrs. Sterling, from the force of the impact, had accidentally slammed into the side of the car and ended up with some bruising and scrapes on her hand.
The family they had collided with, however, was hurt pretty badly. The wife from that family was draped over her husband, crying so hard she could barely breathe.
The other party was entirely at fault for this accident, and Marcus Reed had already gone to follow up and handle the related matters.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sterling stayed with Mrs. Sterling in the ER while her wounds were treated, and Julian Sterling was there with them too.
Ruby Sterling watched the injured family leave, her eyes narrowing slightly. A bold idea suddenly surfaced in her mind!
Even though both Julian Sterling and Claire Bennett had firmly decided to get divorced, she still wanted to try one more time.
If it worked, her merit would be immeasurable!
Thinking that, Ruby Sterling took out her phone and quietly walked toward a corner.
At the same time, Claire Bennett was at work at Sterling International when she received a call from Ruby Sterling. "Hello, Ruby, what is it?"
"Claire! This is bad! I just went with Julian Sterling to the airport to pick someone up, but we got into a car accident, and we... we're at the hospital now..."
The moment Claire Bennett heard that Julian Sterling had been in a car accident and was in the hospital, her mind buzzed and she suddenly couldn't think at all.
She didn't hear a word of what Ruby Sterling said after that.
Claire Bennett didn't realize that her hand had started trembling.
Only after quite a while did she ask in a shaky voice, "Where are you?"
"We're at Chicago Private Hospital."
After hanging up, Claire Bennett couldn't care about anything else. She told Molly Lee that she had an emergency and needed to go out, then immediately went downstairs and took a cab to the hospital.
A cab came very quickly.
Perhaps Claire Bennett looked so anxious that it made the driver anxious too; he got there ten minutes earlier than expected.
After paying, Claire Bennett didn't pause for even a second and rushed straight into the hospital.
Ruby Sterling was waiting in the lobby. When she saw Claire Bennett, a faint smile appeared at the corners of her lips.
She had known Claire Bennett wasn't that heartless. Hearing that her big brother was hurt, she would definitely come rushing over. And she had gotten to the hospital so fast—it wasn't hard to imagine how worried she must have been.
To keep from giving herself away, Ruby Sterling quickly suppressed her smile. "Claire, you're here."
"Ruby, where is Julian Sterling? How badly is he hurt? Is it serious? He's not in life-threatening danger, right?" Claire Bennett fired off one question after another. Even she didn't notice that her voice carried a faint tremor.
At that moment, Claire Bennett felt as though she had gone back to the day she learned that her mother had been in a car accident.
Back then, she had been just this helpless and anxious too. If something had happened to Julian Sterling too, then what would she do?
Claire Bennett's eyes reddened, moisture gathering at the corners. She truly looked terribly worried.
Ruby Sterling didn't drag it out. She said, "He's in the ER. I'll take you there."
After saying that, she led Claire Bennett to the emergency room.
Inside the ER, Julian Sterling was sitting in a chair off to the side. The doctor was treating Mrs. Sterling's scraped wounds, and the sting of the antiseptic made her cry out in pain, so Mr. Sterling held her and soothed her gently.
Julian Sterling pinched the bridge of his nose. What a disaster out of nowhere.
His suit had gotten drenched in too much blood when he saved someone, so it had already been thrown away.
Now he was only wearing a white dress shirt, but blood had still soaked into the chest area and dried dark, and it still looked shocking.
Just then, the ER door was suddenly pushed open.
Claire Bennett appeared in the doorway. Her gaze locked onto Julian Sterling immediately, and when she saw the blood on him, she felt like she was about to cry herself to death.
"Julian Sterling!" She hurried toward him.
Mrs. Sterling, beside them, widened her eyes, her face full of shock.
Th-This girl was...?
A moment ago, Mrs. Sterling had watched Claire Bennett barge straight in with her eyes shining with tears, looking at Julian Sterling with concern. She was obviously extremely worried about him.
If she weren't holding herself back for some reason, she probably would have thrown herself into his arms.
Mrs. Sterling was so stunned she forgot about the pain, and it wasn't until the antiseptic touched her skin and stung that she suddenly snapped back to herself.
Something was going on! There was definitely something going on!
Could this girl be the girlfriend Julian Sterling was dating?
Mrs. Sterling was overjoyed, to the point that her hand didn't even seem to hurt anymore.
That little brat!
When she had just asked him whether there was any girl he liked, he had actually replied with a cold face that there wasn't, making her worry for nothing about what would happen with his future other half.
Just as Mrs. Sterling was about to ask something, she suddenly caught the signal from Ruby Sterling behind her. Ruby Sterling was telling her not to speak, so in the end Mrs. Sterling could only forcibly suppress all the curiosity in her heart.
When Julian Sterling saw Claire Bennett appear, his expression turned dazed.
Claire Bennett? Why was she here?
Did she hear that he was injured and come specifically to see him?
Julian Sterling had a vague guess in his heart, but he didn't dare confirm it, afraid it was just wishful thinking on his part.
At that moment, Claire Bennett walked up anxiously. She reached out as if she wanted to touch the blood on his chest, but she also looked afraid to.
Only then did Julian Sterling come back to himself. He asked, "Why are you here?"
Seeing Julian Sterling like this, Claire Bennett's eyes turned red, and her heart clenched up. She had no idea how serious his injuries were.
In a trembling voice, she said, "Are you okay?"
Julian Sterling didn't answer. What he really wanted to ask was, if he weren't okay, would Claire Bennett be very worried?
But the words never left his mouth. What right did he have to ask her to worry about him?
By then, Mrs. Sterling had already been bandaged up, and her curiosity about Claire Bennett was almost impossible to suppress.
Seeing Julian Sterling and Claire Bennett together, though, it wasn't good to disturb them.
Mrs. Sterling shot Ruby Sterling a look, signaling for her to step outside and talk.
