Chapter 215
She Successfully Won Over Julian Sterling
Her heel hit the curb, and she almost fell to the ground, but Julian Sterling reached out just in time and steadied her.
"You don't have to give me an answer right now. I'll give you three days. I hope that by then, I'll hear you say yes."
After saying that, Julian Sterling reached out and rubbed Claire Bennett's head, then said softly, "It's getting late. Go back and get some rest. Sooner or later, you'll realize I'm better than Sean Shaw."
He let go of Claire Bennett, opened the car door, and got in. Then the car sped away right in front of her.
Only after Julian Sterling's taillights disappeared did the utterly dumbfounded Claire Bennett finally come to her senses.
She covered her face and let out a muffled whimper.
What had just happened? Was Julian Sterling confessing to her?
Why did she have this faint but powerful feeling deep down that the friend he mentioned probably didn't exist at all, and that he was talking about himself?
The more Claire Bennett thought about it, the more wrong it felt.
Who would do something like this for a friend? No one would believe it if they heard it. It was way too absurd. So the friend Julian Sterling mentioned simply didn't exist—it was him!
No, wait!
That wasn't the point right now. The point was that Julian Sterling wanted to date her!!
Claire Bennett took a deep breath. This happiness had come too suddenly. Could it be that Julian Sterling had been moved by her, and he was willing to give things a try with her?
If things went smoothly for them, then six months later, would they not have to get divorced after all?
Thinking of how Julian Sterling had just asked whether she wanted to date him, Claire Bennett got excited all over again. She wished she could call him right away and tell him she was willing!
But girls needed to be a little reserved and couldn't act so impatient, so she forced down the eager excitement in her heart.
It was only three days anyway. It would pass in the blink of an eye.
Then Julian Sterling's words kept replaying in her mind. He had said something about her realizing Sean Shaw would be better than him. What exactly had he meant by that? Why had he brought up Sean Shaw out of nowhere?
After thinking it over, she decided to ask Sean Shaw about it.
...
After returning to the detached house, Claire Bennett called Sean Shaw and briefly told him what had just happened.
To her surprise, after hearing it, Sean Shaw shouted in shock, "Holy shit?! What did you just say?!"
Hearing Sean Shaw's voice practically blasting through the phone, Claire Bennett moved it a little farther from her ear and helplessly turned on speaker so her ears wouldn't be tortured by him again.
She said somewhat helplessly, "Sean, even though I successfully won over Julian Sterling, you don't have to get this excited, right?"
He was acting even happier than she was.
Sean Shaw said, "That's not what this is about!"
Now he finally fucking knew why his business trip to Chicago had failed—Julian Sterling had treated him like an imaginary rival, so he'd deliberately canceled their partnership.
Could it be that Julian Sterling still didn't know Claire Bennett's identity?
Just thinking about it made Sean Shaw feel like he had a mouthful of blood stuck in his chest!
After the brief burst of agitation, Sean Shaw asked somewhat speechlessly, "Claire Bennett, have you never told Julian Sterling about your relationship with the Bennett family?"
Claire Bennett narrowed her eyes in confusion.
Her relationship with the Bennett family?
Claire Bennett said gloomily, "I've already cut ties with the Bennett family for good. Why would I tell him?"
"..."
Sean Shaw felt like he was just too pitiful. He could've soared to success by relying on his cousin-in-law's powerful backing, but instead he'd unexpectedly ended up as cannon fodder.
He really got caught in the crossfire for no reason!
Sean Shaw decided he absolutely had to make a trip to Chicago in person and clear things up, so Julian Sterling wouldn't inexplicably aim his gun at him again!
Claire Bennett asked curiously, "Sean, why did you ask whether I'd told Julian Sterling about my relationship with the Bennett family? I don't want to have anything to do with the Bennett family anymore."
"You... ugh! Forget it. It's nothing. I'm really happy for you that you succeeded. Remember to treat me to a meal another day."
After saying that, Sean Shaw hung up.
Claire Bennett felt Sean Shaw was acting a little strange. He'd been abnormally agitated, but she didn't think much of it.
Not long after she hung up, Ruby Sterling called again.
She quickly swiped to answer. The moment the call connected, Ruby Sterling said impatiently, "Claire, who were you just talking to? I called you several times!"
"What did you need me for?"
"Actually, it's nothing..." Ruby Sterling gave a sheepish laugh.
Next, she cautiously asked about Claire Bennett going to meet Julian Sterling's parents and younger sister that day, worried they hadn't done well and might have let something slip.
Claire Bennett didn't hide anything and said, "It went pretty smoothly. Julian Sterling's parents have very good temperaments and are very easy to get along with."
Hearing that, Ruby Sterling gave a smug little huff to herself. Of course they were easy to get along with. Her parents weren't like Auntie, that snobbish old bat who worshiped money. They would never look down on Claire Bennett!
But before Ruby Sterling could be happy for long, she heard Claire Bennett say helplessly, "But his younger sister doesn't seem to like me very much. She even asked me today about me and Julian Sterling getting divorced..."
