Chapter 230
Clearing Away Everything for Claire Bennett
She had to find the owner of Kinley Estate. If she found out who had taken the most precious thing she had, she definitely wouldn't let that man off!
But more importantly, why had she been out of her mind? Who had set her up?
Claire Bennett wasn't the type to wallow in self-pity. After washing herself clean, she put on a thick bathrobe and called Ruby Sterling from the living room.
The call connected quickly.
Before Claire Bennett could speak, Ruby's voice came through. "Claire, are you okay?"
Claire Bennett said in a low voice, "I'm home."
Ruby was obviously relieved. She said, "I'm home too. I didn't expect Kelsey Lee to do something like this. She's seriously shameless."
Kelsey Lee did this?
Claire Bennett thought it over carefully and felt it probably was her. After all, just a moment earlier, she and Ruby had made her lose all face.
"What about her? Has she already been dealt with?"
Ruby said, "Yeah. She was thrown to the two waiters who wanted to hurt you. She brought it on herself. From now on, all the socialites in Chicago will be wary of her, and she can forget about getting close to them again."
Hearing that the instigator had already been punished, the heaviness in Claire Bennett's heart instantly lifted quite a bit.
She said softly, "I'm a little tired. I'll hang up first."
Ruby figured that Claire Bennett and her brother had gone at it for so long, so being tired was only natural. So, thoughtfully, she ended the call.
...
At this time, inside Kinley Estate.
Julian Sterling suddenly sneezed for no reason. Just now, after he had dealt with Kelsey Lee, the estate manager told him that Claire Bennett had already woken up and left on her own.
He had called Claire Bennett, but she hadn't answered.
Julian Sterling thought that maybe she was a little upset that what happened between them had happened. In that situation, he had planned to call a doctor to handle it, but Claire Bennett had kept clinging to him, and in the end he hadn't been able to hold back.
Claire Bennett might be in a bit of a mood. It would probably be better if he didn't show up in front of her and make himself an eyesore.
Anyway, last time he had said he would give her time. There were still two days left before the time he had agreed to ask Claire Bennett for her answer.
He had already waited this long. Two more days made no difference. By then, Claire Bennett should have calmed down, right?
But there was another matter that needed to be resolved.
Since he had already decided to be with Claire Bennett, he needed to lay everything out to his grandfather. This wasn't something that could be explained clearly over the phone.
After thinking it over, Julian Sterling had Marcus Reed book a flight to New York.
Two days later, he would clear away everything for Claire Bennett.
New York, the Sterling family.
A bodyguard in black stood before Old Mr. Sterling and said respectfully, "Sir, Young Master Julian and Claire Bennett did not successfully get divorced."
Hearing this, Old Mr. Sterling's face instantly darkened.
He slammed his hand hard on the table.
Seeing this, Evelyn Sterling, who was beside him, said, "Enough. I think Julian doesn't want a divorce. No matter how angry you get, there's nothing you can do about it. You might as well just let it go."
"Anyway, the fact that Julian is willing to get married at all is already pretty good. With Julian's judgment, I believe that girl can't be all that bad."
Old Mr. Sterling waved at the bodyguard in black, telling him to leave first.
The bodyguard felt as if he had been granted a great reprieve and immediately turned to leave.
After he was gone, Old Mr. Sterling stood up. Restlessly, he paced back and forth around the room, still grumbling, "Let it go? Let what go! For that woman, that brat has lied to me again and again."
"When has Julian ever done something like this before? It's all because that woman showed up. I don't think that woman is any good."
The more he spoke, the angrier Old Mr. Sterling became. Yet Mrs. Sterling refused to take his side and kept telling him every day to let it go and accept that woman.
He absolutely would not allow that kind of woman to enter the Sterling family!
Ever since the last time he had said they should divorce, he had stopped pressuring Julian Sterling and given him all the freedom he needed, thinking he surely understood what mattered most.
As for Paige Sterling, he had also told her not to concern herself with their affairs for the time being.
But how much time had passed already, and this was the result Julian Sterling had given him?
If they still weren't divorced after so long, that proved he'd been lying to him!
Old Mr. Sterling glared at Mrs. Sterling irritably and said in dissatisfaction, "I think you just spoil him too much, letting him fool around like this and treat his own marriage like some kind of game."
Evelyn Sterling wasn't too pleased to hear that either.
She said unhappily, "How exactly do I spoil Julian? Who was it that kept saying before that Julian wouldn't get married, and that as long as he was willing to marry, it wouldn't matter even if the girl's family background was a little lower?"
"Now he's willing to get married, but you've started looking down on her again. Since the girl can make Julian like her, then I think she can enter this family!"
"No. If my Sterling family lets that kind of woman in, we'll be completely ruined from then on!"
"Then if Julian never gets married for the rest of his life, you'd think that's fine too?"
"How could he possibly never get married?"
"You've found him so many daughters from prominent families, and he hasn't liked a single one. Does that look like someone who can get married?"
As they talked, the two elders started bickering again.
Just as the two old people were arguing so fiercely their faces had gone red, Uncle Ming walked in from outside. Left with no choice, he interrupted them and said, "Sir, Madam, Young Master Julian is here."
Mrs. Sterling shot Old Mr. Sterling a look and said, "Julian's here. Maybe it's for that girl's matter. Don't go talking nonsense later and end up arguing with Julian."
"Hmph." Old Mr. Sterling snorted dismissively.
He went back and sat down on the sofa.
A moment later, Julian Sterling followed one of the servants from the Sterling residence inside.
He was dressed in an expensive, perfectly tailored suit. He looked noble and refined, handsome and striking, with a powerful presence that was impossible to ignore.
Old Mr. Sterling looked at his eldest grandson standing before him. Whether in appearance or in every other respect, he was absolutely perfect.
It was just a pity that something like this had happened. It was truly infuriating.
