Ch. 295 - Should We Bring Claire Back?

Chapter 295

Should We Bring Claire Back?

The Bennett family and the Sterling family were both obviously old-money elite families in New York. Logically, they should have had dealings with each other, so how had things ended up in this kind of state where they wanted nothing to do with each other?

Julian Sterling frowned. He had been curious about this before too.

Later, he looked into it, but didn't find anything. The only thing he was able to confirm was that the Bennett family and the Sterling family did not get along.

But judging from Victor Bennett's attitude, it didn't seem to be to that extent.

So the problem was probably still with Grandpa. He had always been eccentric and stubborn. It would be perfectly normal for him to be unhappy over some small matter and refuse to keep in contact with the Bennett family.

Julian Sterling told Ruby Sterling what he was thinking, and after hearing him out, Ruby muttered a few more comments.

At that moment, someone came out of the Sterling International building. Julian Sterling lifted his eyes and looked over, realizing it was Claire Bennett. He said in a low voice, "I'll hang up first."

When everything had just happened earlier, Claire Bennett had already sent Julian Sterling a message saying she might be delayed for a while and telling him not to wait for her and to just go home first.

Claire Bennett had been about to head out and catch a cab back, but to her surprise, she saw Julian Sterling's car quietly parked at the entrance to Sterling International.

She paused.

Could it be... that Julian Sterling had been waiting here for her the whole time just now?

A little touched, she quickly jogged over, pulled open the car door, and got in. "Were you waiting here for me the whole time? Didn't I tell you to go back first?"

With one hand resting on the steering wheel, Julian Sterling said with slight guilt, "I wasn't waiting that long."

He had been in the office the whole time. Only after confirming that Claire Bennett's matter had been handled did he go downstairs and drive over. He hadn't expected Claire Bennett to misunderstand.

Claire Bennett glanced at the time. It had already been almost four hours past quitting time, and he was still saying he hadn't waited that long.

Julian Sterling really was patient. He had given her an unexpected surprise.

Faced with Claire Bennett's guilty look, Julian Sterling felt even more guilty. He gave a light cough and changed the subject. "I might need to go on a business trip for two days this weekend."

"Oh... it's fine. I have things to take care of too." Claire Bennett thought of that phone call from Julian Sterling's grandmother.

She had promised Grandma Sterling that she would let Julian Sterling's grandfather take a look at her. Grandma Sterling had even reminded her not to tell Julian Sterling about it, so she could only say that she had other things to take care of. Luckily, Julian Sterling was going on a business trip, otherwise she wouldn't have known how to explain it.

As soon as the car pulled away, Claire Bennett couldn't help enthusiastically sharing what had just happened with Julian Sterling.

At the end, she said with a face full of emotion, "I never thought President Sterling could be so fair and discerning. No wonder he's someone fit to be a leader."

Julian Sterling: "..."

Seeing the look of admiration all over Claire Bennett's face, it seemed that after he had Wes Mercer go help Claire Bennett, all the credit and good reputation had ended up being taken by Wes Mercer?

Julian Sterling felt a little depressed.

But there was no way to explain too much, so in the end he could only silently endure it.

...

Ever since Willow Lane had been publicly slapped in the face again and again last time, she had reined herself in a lot and stopped jumping around making trouble in front of Claire Bennett.

Claire Bennett was thus able to peacefully and happily continue living her life.

In the blink of an eye, it was almost time for Claire Bennett to go to New York, and lately she had been worrying about a gift to bring for the meeting.

After all, it was her first time meeting Julian Sterling's grandfather and grandmother. It wasn't a formal meeting with elders, but she still felt she should bring a gift.

Ding. Claire Bennett's phone chimed.

When she saw who had sent the message, Claire Bennett immediately sat up straight and became fully alert.

It was a message from her mother's medical facility!

She quickly tapped it open. A message was sitting there: Miss Song, your mother's condition has been fairly good recently. There seem to be slight reflexive responses appearing. We recommend supplementing with traditional Chinese medical care. There may be a possibility of waking her.

After seeing this message, Claire Bennett looked excited.

She read the message over and over several times before finally calling her mother's attending physician.

"Miss Song." After picking up, the person on the other end greeted her politely.

"Dr. Fang, I just received your message. Is what it says true?"

It wasn't that Claire Bennett was unwilling to believe it, but after so many years had passed, she had thought her mother would remain like this forever, never able to wake up again.

But now she was being told that her mother still had hope of regaining consciousness. It was like giving life-saving water to a traveler lost in the desert, like a ray of light to someone lost in the darkness!

"That's right. We've been doing examinations these past two days and found that Ms. Shen's condition is much better than before. But our treatment methods are ultimately limited. We suggest that you supplement things on your end with traditional Chinese medicine treatment. It may be able to stimulate her nerves and help her wake up sooner."

After hearing that, Claire Bennett was so excited that she couldn't speak for a long while.

After Claire Bennett ended the call, she still felt as though she were dreaming. She pinched her cheek, and the pain came through clearly.

She wasn't dreaming. Her mother really did have a chance of waking up!

But Dr. Fang had just said to combine it with traditional Chinese medicine treatment. Where was she supposed to find...

Suddenly, Claire Bennett froze.

Come to think of it, she really had thought of someone. Back when she had fallen out completely with the Bennett family, she had ruthlessly severed all ties with New York, including all her connections and social circles. She had been just short of changing her name and fleeing far away.

Contacting that person now meant she would have to return to that New York circle.

Did she really want to get in touch?

"Your mother has a chance of waking up..."

The medical facility's words echoed in her mind once again, and the hesitation in Claire Bennett's eyes gradually faded.

She pulled out a long-buried phone number from her blocked list, dialed it, and then waited nervously.
