Chapter 375
Do You Want to Know Who It Was
After all that chaos, before she knew it, it was already the next morning.
After Claire Bennett opened her eyes, she instinctively looked beside her.
Julian Sterling was already nowhere to be seen, and the bathroom door was open too, proving he wasn't in there.
If not for the soreness in her waist and the discomfort in certain places, Claire would have almost suspected she'd seen a ghost last night.
She threw back the covers and got out of bed, then looked in the mirror and found quite a few marks left on her body.
Some images from last night flashed through her mind, and Claire's cheeks turned red again. It was truly embarrassing.
After washing up, she walked out to the living room and found a table completely covered with breakfast, while Julian Sterling sat there in loungewear waiting for her.
So... he had gotten up to make breakfast?
Claire couldn't help muttering, "So you were making breakfast. I thought I was dreaming last night, dreaming that you'd come here."
When Julian Sterling heard Claire's words, his eyes narrowed and he said, "Want to try again and see whether you're dreaming?"
"N-no... no need... let's hurry and eat breakfast." Claire quickly waved her hands and refused.
Julian Sterling was indeed somewhat extraordinarily gifted in that area. She really couldn't withstand a man putting her through that over and over.
The two of them sat down together at the dining table.
Claire remembered how inexplicably jealous Julian Sterling had looked last night, and she decided to test him a little.
After thinking it over, she said, "Actually, there's something I forgot to tell you yesterday. Besides going to see Sienna Shaw and visiting my mother, I also had dinner with someone else. Guess whether that person was a man or a woman?"
Julian Sterling glanced at her and said casually, "A man."
Claire curled her lips into a smile and said, "Mm, that's right, it was a man. Do you want to know who it was?"
Julian Sterling's expression turned cold, and he spat out two words: "Zane Cole."
"Uh..." Claire had originally wanted to keep him guessing a little, but she hadn't expected Julian Sterling to guess everything.
Could it be that he knew she'd gone to dinner with Zane Cole? Was that why he asked her that last night? But she hadn't told him the truth, so he got jealous?
That explanation matched Julian Sterling's behavior from last night exactly. He really had known about it, and he'd even gotten jealous and given her a round of loving punishment!
Then hadn't her probing him last night basically been asking for death?
At that thought, Claire wanted to cry but had no tears. She felt unbelievably wronged.
Holding her waist, Claire asked, "Hey, did you know I went to dinner with Zane Cole?"
"Mm." Julian Sterling nodded.
"How did you know?"
Julian Sterling said without changing expression, "I just happened to pass by the restaurant."
Claire looked helpless. "Then why didn't you come in and say hi? So you'd already known I was having dinner with Zane Cole, and that's why you deliberately asked me, right?"
Julian Sterling slightly curled his lips, tacitly admitting Claire's words.
Seeing that, Claire felt even more like she'd suffered a huge loss.
At that moment, the phone on the table suddenly rang. She picked it up and glanced at it. It was Sean Shaw calling.
Puzzled, Claire swiped to answer and held the phone to her ear. "Hello, Sean, why are you calling me so early? Is something wrong?"
"Claire, are you in New York?"
"Mm, yes. I got to New York yesterday. I came to take care of some things. What's wrong?"
Sean Shaw said somewhat helplessly, "Grandma's in the hospital. She keeps insisting on seeing you. I saw the location on the post you made yesterday and saw that you were in New York, so I thought I'd see whether you could come visit Grandma."
Sean Shaw's grandmother was Claire's maternal grandmother. She had always doted on Claire since childhood. Whenever Claire's mother took her back home, her grandmother would often take her out to play. Now that she learned her grandmother had been hospitalized, of course Claire couldn't just ignore it.
After asking for her grandmother's address, Claire hurriedly wiped her mouth and got ready to head out.
When Julian Sterling saw how drastically Claire's expression had changed after the call, he asked, "What happened?"
"My grandma's in the hospital. I need to go see her." As Claire spoke, she seemed to remember something and took out her phone. "I'll refund my plane ticket. I'll go back to Chicago in a couple of days after I've taken care of everything."
Next, Claire temporarily refunded her plane ticket and sent Sienna Shaw a message telling her that she would be delaying her return to Chicago, asking her to wait for updates at any time. Sienna replied very quickly, saying she was standing by for orders at any time.
Only after she finished dealing with everything did Claire notice that Julian Sterling had already changed into a different outfit.
He said, "I'll take you."
Claire didn't refuse Julian Sterling's kindness. She nodded, picked up her bag, and hurried with him to the hospital.
Sean Shaw had arranged for Grandma Shaw to stay in a private hospital. The environment was quieter, and a private room was better for recovery.
Grandma Shaw was already old, and recently she'd also developed Alzheimer's. Sometimes she wouldn't remember the people around her. This time, she had been rushed to the hospital after fainting from high blood pressure, and unexpectedly, after waking up, she kept insisting on seeing Claire.
In the end, Sean Shaw had no choice but to call Claire.
Inside the hospital room, Sean Shaw's mother, father, and Sean Shaw were all gathered around Grandma Shaw's bed. Looking at Grandma Shaw lying there making a fuss, all three of them wore helpless expressions.
"Where's Claire? I want to see Claire!" Grandma Shaw pouted unhappily and kept making a scene.
Sean Shaw's mother hurried forward and tried to soothe her. "Mom, don't worry. We've already called Claire. She's on her way right now. You'll be able to see her soon!"
