Ch. 399 - Wes Mercer Is Mr. Sterling's Assistant

Chapter 399

Wes Mercer Is Mr. Sterling's Assistant

Julian Sterling felt pretty helpless. He glanced at the flashy but impractical car, not expecting Claire Bennett to be unlike most women and show no delight at all.

Just as he was about to speak, his phone suddenly rang, and he immediately swiped to answer it.

The moment the call connected, the voice on the other end echoed through the car over Bluetooth.

"Hello, are you Mr. Wes Mercer's friend? He was in a serious car accident and is currently undergoing emergency treatment at the hospital. We haven't been able to reach his family, and your number was the only one we found in his phone. Can you come over right away?"

Julian Sterling's brows knitted tightly.

He slowly eased off the speed and then pulled the car over to the side of the road.

Julian Sterling said in a low voice, "He's an orphan."

"Uh... he's unconscious right now and needs surgery, but we can't find anyone who can sign for him."

"Which hospital?"

"Central Public Hospital."

After the call ended, Claire Bennett immediately pressed, "What happened? Did something happen?"

Julian Sterling said with a grave expression, "Wes was in a car accident. I need to go to the hospital and check on him now."

"Then don't waste any time. Hurry over."

Julian Sterling immediately turned the car around and drove toward the hospital.

Only then did a look of confusion rise in Claire Bennett's heart. She had been too anxious just now to think much of it, but now she realized something was off.

Who was Wes Mercer?

Why had Julian Sterling spoken to her in such a matter-of-fact tone, like she knew this person?

Claire Bennett started to wonder if she'd been too busy lately and had developed some kind of intermittent amnesia, forgetting people she knew.

She looked at Julian Sterling, who was focused on driving, and felt like this wasn't a good time to ask him.

Maybe she should ask Ruby Sterling instead.

So Claire Bennett took out her phone and quietly sent Ruby Sterling a text.

Claire Bennett: "Ruby, do you know someone named Wes Mercer?"

About a few dozen seconds later, Ruby Sterling texted back. There seemed to be urgency between the lines of her message. "How do you know this person? Why are you asking about him? Did something happen?"

When Ruby Sterling saw Claire Bennett's message, she nearly jumped up from the couch.

Her brother had said he wanted to reveal his identity, but he hadn't said he was going to reveal it right now!

Claire Bennett asking about Wes Mercer out of nowhere—had she already found out her brother's identity?

Claire Bennett hadn't expected Ruby Sterling to react so strongly. Could there really be something wrong with this person?

She replied, "Julian Sterling got a call just now saying this person was in a car accident. We're on our way to the hospital right now, but I don't remember this person, so I wanted to ask if you know him."

Ruby Sterling: "Oh, so that's it. He's my brother's assistant. Which hospital is he at now? I'll go over and check on him too."

She was worried that the moment Claire Bennett saw Wes Mercer, she'd recognize him as the 'Mr. Sterling' she had in mind, so naturally she had to hurry to the hospital to take a look.

Seeing how worried Ruby Sterling was, Claire Bennett sent her the hospital name.

After putting her phone down, she was still a little puzzled. Was Wes Mercer Mr. Sterling's assistant?

If that was the case, then it was perfectly normal for Julian Sterling to know him well. After all, Julian Sterling was usually Mr. Sterling's assistant, but in her memory there really was no such person at all.

After thinking about it for a long time, she still couldn't make sense of it, so in the end she simply stopped thinking about it.

Anyway, she'd know once she saw Wes Mercer later. Maybe she really had forgotten.
