He Actually Apologized to Her

Claire Bennett only watched coldly, without much emotional reaction.

Ava Bennett cutting off her path to renting didn't actually affect her that much. She could still keep living in Zane Cole's detached house. At worst, she could thank Zane Cole another time when she had the chance.

Just then, two men in suits appeared at the doorway, panting for breath.

When Lily saw them, she was immediately startled. "Supervisor? Manager? What are you doing here?"

These two were senior executives at the real estate agency. They had just received shocking news, and now they had hurried over to handle Claire Bennett's follow-up arrangements. If they didn't handle it well, they were going to be in deep trouble.

When Ava Bennett saw the two of them come over, she assumed they were there for her, and proudly lifted her chin.

Waiting for them to come flatter her.

Unexpectedly, they didn't even look at her. Instead, they walked up to Claire Bennett and said, "Miss Bennett, we're terribly sorry. Our company failed in its management, and one of our employees did something wrong. We hope you'll be magnanimous and not hold it against us."

Claire Bennett looked at the two of them in surprise. She had almost thought just now that they were there for Ava Bennett too.

After all, this agency she had come to was full of Ava Bennett's people. No matter how she looked at it, there was no way these two agency executives would be on her side.

But to her surprise, they were actually apologizing to her.

Lily watched her own bosses fawning respectfully over Claire Bennett, and she was completely dumbfounded.

Hadn't Ava Bennett said Claire Bennett had already been abandoned, and had no status or position at all?

Claire Bennett was stunned for a moment too. She looked at the manager and asked, "Shouldn't you be standing with her instead?"

As she spoke, she lifted a hand and pointed at Lily.

This Lily had first been so enthusiastic toward her that she'd thought she was a nice person, but it turned out she was just a fence-sitter—and one leaning toward Ava Bennett's side at that.

Now the people inside their company actually hadn't reached a unified position, which really surprised her.

When the manager heard Claire Bennett's words, he smiled politely and said over and over, "That's not the case. This employee violated our company's rules. At our agency, landlords generally do not meet clients directly. We, the agency, are the ones who make the introductions and handle the sublease."

Claire Bennett's gaze swept lightly over Lily. Her face was pale and ugly, and she seemed genuinely frightened.

Claire Bennett vaguely believed that these people really were not standing with Lily.

A moment later, Claire Bennett probed, "But just now your employee was shouting that she'd make sure I couldn't rent any place. I thought that was how your company treated clients."

"How could that be!" The manager's expression changed, and he immediately retorted, "Isn't the whole purpose of our agency to get houses rented out? I don't believe any agency would treat clients like that."

Ava Bennett's smugness hadn't lasted long. Seeing the two of them fawning over Claire Bennett like this, she frowned unhappily.

"Lily, what exactly is wrong with your company's manager? Why is he sucking up to a woman like Claire Bennett who has no status or position? Could she possibly bring your company any benefit?"

"I... I don't know."

To be honest, Lily didn't understand why either.

The manager and supervisor didn't understand it either. In that short span of time just now, their agency had been forcefully acquired, and the one that acquired them was the famous Sterling Group.

In New York, Sterling Group was an existence no one could afford to provoke. How could they possibly have any say in the matter?

Their boss upstairs had only one request: serve Claire Bennett well, and buy the house she took a liking to.

Most importantly, they couldn't let Claire Bennett notice.

The request was bizarre as hell, but they could only do as told. In their eyes now, Claire Bennett was someone they absolutely could not offend.

Seeing that these managers seemed fairly easy to talk to, Claire Bennett gradually let down her guard. She said, "Then right now I want to rent an apartment near Cole Medical Center. Do you have any recommendations?"

"Yes! We have several scarce listings you can choose from."

As the manager spoke, he took out the tablet in his hand and pulled up the information for Claire Bennett to look at.

Claire Bennett glanced at the housing information on it. In terms of location, environment, and everything else, they were even better than her own place. That area had originally been her ideal choice, but unfortunately, homes in good locations were always in very short supply, so there was nothing she could do even if she wanted one.

By this point, Ava Bennett and Lily had already been left standing off to the side for quite a while.

Seeing that Lily didn't dare speak, Ava Bennett complained on her own, "Hey! What is wrong with you people? Claire Bennett is nothing but a renter, so why are you sucking up to her?"
