Ch. 551 - Did He Really Do Something Wrong?

Chapter 551

Did He Really Do Something Wrong?

She shot Old Mr. Sterling a resentful look and said unhappily, "This is all because of you. If anything really happens to Julian, it'll all be your fault. That child Claire is actually pretty good. I don't think there was any need to do this. And now look what you've done to Julian. If anything really happens to him, I won't let this go with you!"

Being scolded like that, Old Mr. Sterling couldn't save face.

He said with a dark expression, "Have you forgotten that woman's mother..."

However, before he could finish, Old Mrs. Sterling cut him off. She continued, "So what? What's the point of still clinging to the past now? The Sterling family already has one vegetative patient, and that's painful enough. Are you determined to make it two before you'll be satisfied?"

"You..." Old Mr. Sterling was so angry he couldn't get the words out.

Ruby watched the two of them arguing from the side and secretly gave Old Mrs. Sterling a thumbs-up in her heart.

Actually, after she and Julian had analyzed Claire Bennett's thoughts just now, Julian had already recovered a bit. The reason she said that was because she was worried Grandpa and Grandma would keep making trouble for Julian, so this was a reminder to the two of them.

Now it seemed the effect was pretty good. At least Grandma was on their side.

"So now you're helping that woman?" Old Mr. Sterling looked at Old Mrs. Sterling and asked displeasedly. He felt betrayed; even his wife, who shared his bed day and night, wasn't helping him anymore.

Had he really done something wrong?

Old Mrs. Sterling snorted coldly. "I'm helping Julian. I don't want my grandson to become a vegetable!"

"Fine! Fine! Fine!" Old Mr. Sterling stood up, turned, and walked outside, throwing out only one sentence: "I'll go find that woman right now, then!"

Ruby had only wanted Old Mr. Sterling not to interfere in Julian's affairs, but she hadn't expected that he would go straight to Claire Bennett instead.

Grandpa was in such a bad mood right now. If he really had a direct clash with Claire,

wouldn't that just make things even worse?

But Old Mr. Sterling had already gotten into the car and left. She could only run upstairs, rush into Julian's room, and say urgently, "Bro, this is bad!"

Julian had just changed into a different set of clothes. He no longer looked dispirited, as if he had returned to how he used to be.

Unfortunately, Ruby wasn't in the mood to admire his good looks right now.

Julian frowned at Ruby and asked, "What happened?"

"Oh no! When I went downstairs just now..." Ruby grabbed Julian and told him everything from beginning to end. "When I went downstairs just now, Grandpa and Grandma stopped me and asked about you, so I told them."

"I was worried Grandpa would keep making trouble for you, so I said your condition was really bad because of Claire. I didn't expect Grandpa and Grandma to start arguing, and now Grandpa's actually gone to find Claire!"

A flicker passed through Julian's eyes and brows when he heard that.

After learning just now that Claire Bennett might have left because she was thinking of him, he had planned to continue with his previous plan: first secure his position at Sterling Group, clear away every obstacle for Claire Bennett, and then talk to Claire Bennett about the matter between them.

He just hadn't expected Ruby to make her own decision and tell the old man all that. Things had veered off course a little.

But what he hadn't expected even more was that the old man had actually gone to find Claire.

"Let's go take a look together." Julian picked up his coat and put it on as he walked outside, and Ruby hurried after him.

...

At the same time, Claire Bennett had finished tidying herself up and was sitting on the sofa in the apartment's living room in a daze.

Unexpectedly, the apartment doorbell rang. It sounded extremely urgent. A look of surprise appeared on her face, and she walked over to peek outside through the peephole.

She hadn't known who it was at first, but to her surprise, the person standing outside was Old Mr. Sterling!

Claire Bennett hesitated for a few seconds, then finally took a deep breath and opened the door.

Her attitude was still fairly polite as she looked at Old Mr. Sterling and asked, "Grandpa Sterling, what brings you here so late?"

Old Mr. Sterling gave Claire Bennett a sharp look, his gaze sweeping around the inside of the place.

Claire Bennett had only just rented this place, and for the time being she hadn't bought much for it. It looked a little empty, which made her thin, frail figure seem even lonelier.

Old Mr. Sterling remembered that Claire Bennett was the Bennett family's daughter. Even if she had left the Sterling family, she shouldn't possibly be living in a place like this. It had even made him run to the Bennett family home to look for her just now. Why was she living here by herself?

Could it be that she knew he was coming and had deliberately staged this for him to see?

Old Mr. Sterling's first instinct was to think in the worst direction, but then on second thought, Claire Bennett shouldn't have known he would come here, so it probably wasn't deliberate.

Claire Bennett had no idea that Old Mr. Sterling's mind had already run through a bunch of messy thoughts. She stood there somewhat stiffly and said, "Would you like to come in and sit down for a bit and have some tea?"

Old Mr. Sterling pressed his lips together and walked inside without saying a word.

Claire Bennett tightened her grip on the doorknob, shut the door, and walked in.

She went to the kitchen and brought Old Mr. Sterling a glass of water. After setting the cup down, she spoke first: "Grandpa Sterling, you can tell me now, right? What did you come to see me about?"

Old Mr. Sterling asked with a cool expression, "What exactly are you and Julian Sterling trying to do now?"
