Chapter 65
His Girlfriend Matters More Than Her
Ruby Sterling lowered her head, filled with guilt.
Claire Bennett listened in silence to what Ruby Sterling said, standing rooted to the spot. She felt the disappointment in her heart was about to drown her.
Just now, she had heard Ruby Sterling say that Julian Sterling was having dinner with Miss Hayes.
That Miss Hayes... should be the girl she saw that day, right?
Sure enough, being with his girlfriend was much more important than she was.
She figured there was no need to ask Julian Sterling anymore about the relationship between him and that girl. She had already gotten the answer from Ruby Sterling.
Julian Sterling had broken his promise. She could be angry, she could curse him out for not keeping his word, but after the anger passed, nothing would change. In the end, he still could not appear here.
Naomi Pierce was waiting for her to show up at the banquet. As long as she dared to appear, Naomi would definitely laugh at her.
Heh, Claire Bennett forced the corners of her lips into a smile, mocking those ridiculous thoughts of her own.
She said softly, "It's okay. You've already helped me a lot. It's just that from here on, I may have to walk the rest of the road by myself."
When Ruby Sterling heard that, she felt guilty to death.
She had so perfectly arranged everything for Claire Bennett, and in the end the problem had actually come from her brother!
No matter how calm and unaffected Claire Bennett acted, her slender body was still filled with dejection and disappointment.
It was heartbreaking to see.
Heart aching for her, Ruby Sterling stepped forward and took Claire Bennett's hand. She said in a low voice, "I don't know how things turned out like this either. He's such a bastard who never keeps his word. I'll fire him immediately!"
Originally, Ruby Sterling had wanted to say she would cut ties with Julian Sterling, but then she remembered that Claire Bennett still didn't know Julian Sterling's real identity. If she exposed it now, it would only make Claire Bennett feel even more deceived and miserable, undoubtedly making things worse.
Sigh! She still couldn't say it. She couldn't even curse Julian Sterling openly.
"Ruby, let's go back," Claire Bennett said softly.
Ruby Sterling said in surprise, "Huh? You're not going to Ethan Sterling's engagement banquet with that scumbag anymore?"
Claire Bennett took a deep breath and shook her head. "I'm not going. They're just waiting to laugh at me. Since the plan failed, there's no need for us to deliver ourselves to them to be mocked."
She lowered her head and looked at the gorgeous evening gown she was wearing.
The showpiece of Jinni Styling looked noble and extraordinary. It really was a bit of a pity.
She had imagined things too simply, and too beautifully.
She had thought that if Julian Sterling came pretending to be Ruby Sterling's brother, she would be able to crush Naomi Pierce and Ethan Sterling. As expected, things would not go so smoothly.
That ridiculous marriage between her and Julian Sterling had been a wonderful misunderstanding to begin with.
Now that he couldn't come help, blaming him would be useless anyway.
After leaving the Bennett family, she had always been alone, facing everything by herself. Now she ought to get used to facing all difficulties alone too.
A faint pain throbbed in her heart, and her eyes turned sore and hot. She actually felt like crying.
When she had caught Ethan Sterling cheating and broken up with him, she hadn't wanted to cry. But now she was a little unable to hold it back.
Claire Bennett sniffed and forced all her emotions down.
She would not be defeated!
Claire Bennett turned and walked back toward the banquet hall. Her back was straight, yet it somehow seemed to hide an indescribable sense of loss, carrying a heartbreaking fragility.
Ruby Sterling cursed under her breath and hurriedly followed her.
The two of them opened the car doors and got in. Just as Ruby Sterling was about to start the car and leave, they heard two familiar voices coming from outside...
