Chapter 659
Ava Bennett's Predicament (Continued)
Olivia Lawson had no idea how things were actually going either. She said, "I'll go find Evan York right now and ask him."
She dialed Evan York's number, only to find that his phone was switched off.
Olivia Lawson started to panic a little. She called again, but still no one answered. She vaguely sensed that something was wrong.
Earlier, Evan York had said he wanted an independent space without interruptions, so he had been working on his designs at home. They had seen his designs and hadn't suspected anything, and since they were afraid of disturbing him and affecting his creativity, they had never gone to look for him.
Who would have thought that now they couldn't find him at all!
A bad feeling rose in Olivia Lawson's heart. She looked at Ava Bennett and said, "Manager Song, do you think Evan York might have run off?"
The moment Ava Bennett heard that, her expression turned dark. Judging from the current situation, that really did seem to be the case. The worst part was that, in order to let Evan York focus properly on his designs, she had transferred the money to him in advance. If he had taken the money and run, there was nothing she could do about it.
"What are you still standing there for? Hurry up and go find him!"
Olivia Lawson immediately snapped to attention and hurried out to urgently look for him.
A few hours later, Olivia Lawson entered Ava Bennett's office with a helpless expression. She said carefully, "Manager Song, I already went to Evan York's home. He... he really did run off."
A sharp look spilled into Ava Bennett's eyes as she stared coldly at Olivia Lawson. That look made her tremble despite herself.
She had already been mentally prepared, but hearing the news now still made her extremely displeased. A wave of fury surged in her chest, almost making her explode.
It was one thing that Evan York had run off after swindling her out of a sum of money, but the most important thing was Claire Bennett's side.
She had no new designs here to compete against Claire Bennett, which meant she would be utterly defeated. This time, she had lost, and she had lost completely.
Olivia Lawson told Ava Bennett everything she had found out exactly as it was. She said, "When I got to Evan York's home, there was only a girlfriend there, and she was bawling her eyes out, saying Evan York had tricked her. It turns out those designs weren't made by Evan York at all—they were stolen by his girlfriend from her ex-boyfriend."
Thinking of what she had seen, Olivia Lawson felt it was just too dramatic.
When Ava Bennett heard this, she clenched her fists angrily.
No wonder Evan York had run. It was because he had no design talent at all and was worried the problem would be exposed.
So after cheating her out of a sum of money, Evan York ran away. Now they couldn't find him, so they could only swallow this loss in silence.
Even if they did find him, by then it would be far too late.
With a twisted, savage expression, Ava Bennett swept everything off the desk onto the floor. Gritting her teeth, she said, "What the hell is going on? How exactly do you do your job? Why didn't you verify things clearly?"
Olivia Lawson felt deeply wronged. Back when she was recruiting the new designer, she had shown the designs to Ava Bennett too.
At the time, Ava Bennett had thought his designs were excellent and hadn't asked any more questions, directly letting him join the company. She was only an assistant and had no way to say anything. Now Ava Bennett was putting all the blame on her.
Ava Bennett took a deep breath and forced down the anger in her heart. She said, "In that case, then go find the original designer. I can offer him triple the salary. As long as he can help me suppress Claire Bennett this time."
Hearing that, a troubled look appeared on Olivia Lawson's face.
She said, "Manager Song, I've already asked around. That original designer is named Asher Bell. He once came to our company with his work, but you drove him away at the time."
Ava Bennett felt like she was about to lose it. She didn't remember this person at all.
But she thought hard about it and vaguely recalled that something like that had happened. At the time, she had thought that designer was a fraud, and had even told security to strengthen all the guards. Who would have thought he was actually such an incredible designer?
"Then where is he now? Go bring him back immediately!"
Olivia Lawson sighed helplessly and said bitterly, "We can't bring him back. That designer is now working at Claire Bennett's Maison Verne. The new product designs Maison Verne released this time were made by him."
When Olivia Lawson had investigated this matter, she had understood exactly what Ava Bennett had missed out on.
When Ava Bennett heard this, everything went black before her eyes, and she nearly fainted.
Her breathing quickened, and her hands clenched tightly. She had never imagined that she herself had pushed such an outstanding designer over to Claire Bennett's side. If that design talent had been hers, then Claire Bennett would still be getting suppressed by her now. How could she possibly have fallen into her current predicament?
All of a sudden, Ava Bennett felt some pain in her stomach, and she quickly covered her lower abdomen.
Her baby...
