Chapter 97
Personally Apologize to Mr. Sterling
For the past few days, Claire Bennett had been completely caught up in what was going on between Julian Sterling and Miss Hayes, and she hadn't even thought about the consequences of this at all. Only now did she realize how serious it was.
On the day of the engagement party, Ruby Sterling told her that Mr. Sterling had gone away on a business trip, and she had no idea whether he had come back yet.
If he was still overseas, and she could deal with this in time, then maybe there was still a chance to salvage things...
Claire Bennett turned on her phone, switched it to airplane mode, then connected it to the apartment's wireless internet and started searching the latest news online.
Mr. Sterling really was worthy of being a hot topic in Chicago. The slightest stir around him could make the news.
This time, the matter had blown up everywhere, so naturally people started paying attention to all his movements.
Although Julian Sterling rarely showed his face, his car and license plate number were public knowledge.
This morning, media reporters had photographed his car entering Sterling International. After Claire Bennett saw it, her heart went cold by half.
Mr. Sterling had already returned from his business trip!
Maybe the reporters couldn't get any answers from him, so they came looking for her instead.
No!
She had to go to Sterling International immediately and personally apologize to Mr. Sterling, hoping that for Ruby's sake, he would be magnanimous and let her off, and not hold it against her for impersonating him.
With that thought, Claire Bennett immediately got up, washed up, grabbed her bag, and took a taxi to Sterling International.
The taxi stopped at the entrance to Sterling International. Through the window, Claire Bennett saw quite a crowd packed outside. The cameras and microphones in their hands made them look like news reporters.
The moment anyone went in or out of Sterling International, those reporters swarmed over like flies that had smelled meat, all rushing forward to get an interview.
Claire Bennett's heart instantly sank to the bottom.
With a scene this huge, there was no way that Mr. Sterling didn't know. He definitely knew everything already.
Since a reporter had managed to dig up her phone number, her face had probably been exposed too. She couldn't go in through the front entrance, or those reporters would swallow her alive.
So Claire Bennett had the driver circle around to the back entrance of Sterling International.
...
At this moment, Naomi Pierce was lying on a hospital bed in complete satisfaction, watching the livestream on her phone with a smug look on her face.
Ethan Sterling wanted to smooth things over, but she wasn't willing.
So she found a reporter and exposed the matter of Mr. Sterling's sudden marriage. Now those reporters had caught wind of it and were all blocking the downstairs entrance of the Sterling International building.
She refused to believe that this still wouldn't force the real Mr. Sterling out. When the time came, if he denied any relationship with Claire Bennett in front of everyone and said that he didn't know Claire Bennett at all, then wouldn't Claire Bennett's reputation be utterly ruined?
At the end, she would release the recording she had in her hands, and everything that happened at the engagement party could all be pinned on Claire Bennett.
After all, what vicious thing couldn't a jealousy-crazed ex-girlfriend do?
The corners of Naomi Pierce's lips slowly curled up.
Next, all she had to do was wait for the matter to be exposed.
...
The Sterling International president's office.
Julian Sterling sat on the genuine leather sofa. He wore a plain, simple shirt from an unremarkable brand, but his sharply trimmed hair at the temples, combined with the surroundings around him, gave him the understated, reserved nobility of someone in power.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, and Marcus Reed hurried in.
"Mr. Sterling, there are a lot of reporters outside who want to interview you. They know about Miss Bennett's situation, and they're very interested in your marital status."
At those words, Julian Sterling's expression darkened.
These reporters really had a hell of a lot of nerve, daring to block the entrance to Sterling International and ask about his affairs.
"Make them leave."
"Yes, I'll go drive them away right now." Marcus Reed immediately nodded in acknowledgment and respectfully withdrew.
