Ch. 193 - Amara

Chapter 193

Amara

The foundation held its final review meeting for the succession guide in a room with no family photographs.

The board asked Amara what should happen after publication.

“It should be revised by people who disagree with it,” she said.

They created a public revision process, a yearly review, and a rule that no family could purchase exclusive access to the training materials.

The guide would continue without her.

That fact made her proud and uneasy. Work was easier to leave when it had never mattered. This work mattered.

Her director reminded her that a project surviving its author was the intended result.

At home, Adrian asked whether she would remain with the foundation.

“For now.”

“And after?”

“After is not a promise I owe you tonight.”

He nodded.

Mira sat between them, turning a blank page in her book. Amara watched the page remain blank without rushing to fill it.

Some futures deserved time before they became plans.
