The Wife Who Gave Everything

Ch. 127 - The Corridor Map

Chapter 127

The Corridor Map

Elise printed the new corridor map on bright paper and pinned it to the kitchen wall.

The building had six corridors, one archive room, and one emergency exit that was never marked.

Priya had found the map in a digital note attached to an old service order.

"The note says this was added after last quarter," Priya said. "No author signature."

Bell traced a path with her finger.

Room 14B connected to Stairwell C, then to Archive Shelf B.

"Someone rerouted access by drawing this path," Bell said.

Mara’s voice appeared at the bottom of the note as a metadata comment, timestamped 17 seconds before the public hearing.

Elise replayed the clip from chapter 125’s transcript:

No-face is not innocence. It is a system error dressed as procedure.

The map had a new mark now: a black circle over the unmarked emergency exit.

They went there after dark.

The exit door had fresh paint.

When Elise pushed, it opened.

Behind it: a maintenance stairway lit with red pilot bulbs and no windows.

Priya took a photo, then froze.

"Every bulb is in camera mode," she said. "The camera's on the bulbs."

Elise laughed without humor. "Even lighting is collecting evidence."

At the landing, they found a small metal plate with three letters scratched into it.

C - A - 3

Bell read it aloud.

"Could mean Corridor A, Level 3. Could mean nothing."

Elise put the plate in her bag.

"It means somebody built this for the sake of being found," she said.

That night, after they returned, Priya messaged:

I got a ping from the server. Someone requested these files: ch-126, ch-127, ch-127-a.

Elise did not sleep.
