The Wife Who Gave Everything

Ch. 75 - The Crowd at Noon

Chapter 75

The Crowd at Noon

Noon was always crowded in that square now.

They needed it to be.

Elise gave one public statement in thirty-seven lines and no names except legal terms.

Priya streamed the technical appendix only after noon and only through a protected channel.

Bell handled logistics, making sure each copy was not traceable to one person.

Mara stayed near the stair rail and kept scanning for anyone at frame height.

The square had one statue, two cameras, and one old bakery smell.

Reporters asked if the chain had direct proof.

Elise answered with the same thing from day one: a missing signature and no-face witness.

One reporter asked, "Do you name a suspect?"

Bell answered before she could: "Not yet."

Elise said, "We have a process suspect."

At 11:17, the public stream froze for five seconds and came back with one line from the room archive:

Crowd makes room legal.

Priya whispered, "The same phrase again, from the system."

Mara said, "Then we got our last audience."

At the annex afterward, they found six folded cards under the side step.

Each had one line:

1) keep chain.
2) keep witness route.
3) no one signs first.
4) no room without witness.
5) call 11:17.
6) stop when room breathes.

Elise looked at Bell. "Not an attack."

Bell said, "A reminder."

Priya copied the cards into a new notebook with no metadata.

The legal office announced one preliminary note:

Independent reconstruction begins after filing of full transcript.

Elise felt the pressure loosen.

Maybe not because the case improved, because the pace did.

At sunset she stood at the edge of the square and said to Mara:

"If June is real, she has passed through this now."

Mara nodded. "Then we don't stop."

Elise sent one message to all group members:

New timeline: public release complete. Keep archive offline.

And she slept without hearing any message tones.
