The boat was tied beneath the old pier, though no one had seen it arrive.
Its cabin held four seats, three life jackets, and a locked metal box. Elise found the key in the pocket of a coat that belonged to Everett.
Inside the box was a photograph of the first shoreline.
Someone had circled the place where Cabin Twelve would later stand.
